Partner Tim Robinett elected as director of National Association of Dealer Counsel

The National Association of Dealer Counsel (NADC) members recently elected Manning, Leaver partner Timothy Robinett to serve on its Board of Directors at its 15th Annual Member Conference held at The Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California.

The National Association of Dealer Counsel is a nationwide professional organization of over 600 attorneys who represent automobile and other vehicle dealers. The NADC provides a forum for members to share information, common experience, and advice related to manufacturer franchise issues, vehicle finance, regulatory complexities, insurance laws, buy/sell agreements, lemon laws, employment law, and many other issues facing dealers and their counsel today. Tim will serve a three year term as a director of NADC. Election to the NADC board reflects Tim's long and extensive experience as an attorney representing automobile dealers and shows the confidence of the members of NADC in his abilities. Congratulations,Tim.

Reflections on passing of former MLBB partner, Walter F. Bruder

It was with great sadness that we learned that our former MLBB partner, Walter F. Bruder, passed away on October 13, 2017. Walter was known in the automobile dealer industry as a consummate lawyer, particularly a highly competitive and excellent trial lawyer. He had the knack of being able to go to the heart of the matter quickly, avoiding some of the extraneous and unproductive matters that sometimes find their way into litigation. His vibrant personality and infectious sense of humor always kept everyone on course in seeing the big picture.

When Walter retired he bought five acres of land on Maui, Hawaii, and built two homes on the property, doing a great deal of the planning and construction work himself, transforming raw land into an absolute tropical paradise. Walter was also an artist and experimented with many different art forms, a truly renaissance man. He always remained in contact with the firm and we enjoyed his visits over the years, especially hearing his stories about the good old days. He will be missed, Rest in peace, Walter.

Manning Leaver Partner Brent Smith attended the 2015 NADA Convention and Expo in San Francisco. In connection with that event, NADA announced the release of its latest compliance publication entitled “A Dealer Guide to Federal Advertising Requirements.” This publication was prepared for NADA by Manning Leaver and authored by partner Brent Smith.
